The Thomasville History Center offers curriculum support and supplements to educators and students across the Red Hills region that meet, and exceed, the Georgia Standards of Excellence.

It’s easy to learn about history with help from the Thomasville History Center! Follow our guide to plan your next adventure.

Step 1: Select a Time Period or Theme

Indigenous People (12,000BC-1540AD): Includes Native Americans, ecology, and archaeology; best for grades 2, 3, and 8.

European Exploration (1540-1783): Includes early explorers, colonization, and the birth of the United States; best for grades 3 and 8.

Westward Expansion (1783-1861): Includes Antebellum Georgia, slavery, and the growth of the United States; best for grades 4 and 8.

The Civil War (1861-1865): Includes technology, military, and social effects of the War; best for grades 4 and 8.

Reconstruction and the Resort Era (1865-1906): Includes technology, immigration, and segregation; best for grades 5 and 8.

Turn of the Century (1900-1929): Includes Women’s suffrage, industrialization, World War I and the Roaring 20s; best for grades 5 and 8.

The Age of Modernity (1930-1945): Includes the Great Depression, the Holocaust, and World War II; best for grades 5 and 8.

The Cold War and Civil Rights (1945-1980): Includes technology, integration, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars; best for grades 5 and 8.

Math and Science: Apply math and science skills by exploring an engineering marvel, the Lapham-Patterson House; skills suited for grades 2-5 and 6-8.

Choose one of our 5 travel trunks complete with reproduction artifacts, suggested activities, and a resource book encompassing current Standards of Excellence. Or request a standards-based activity packet to supplement your unit introduction and review.

Explore the History Center’s expansive grounds and historic buildings; staff-facilitated. Visits are approximately 2 hours and include 3 activity rotations.

Educator-facilitated outreach programs or digital, primary source-based games are designed to give students a closer look at the past and encourage critical-thinking skills.
