The Thomasville History Center’s annual spring lectures are back. Join us on March 8 and March 15 for the Slides of March. Attendees will have the option to join us in person or online via Zoom webinar.
This year, we’re excited to focus our attention on the physical and mental health impacts of the Civil War. Our own Meme Greitzer will present Tried, Died, Survived on March 8 at 7:30pm, an exploration of the experiences and post-war lives of Union prisoners who spent time in Thomasville’s short-term Prisoner of War site in December 1864. On March 15, we will be joined remotely by Dr. Sarah Handley-Cousins. Sarah Handley-Cousins is a clinical assistant professor and associate director of the Center for Disability Studies at the University at Buffalo. In addition to teaching and research, she serves as the executive editor of the online history publication Nursing Clio and is a producer of Dig: A History Podcast. Dr. Handley-Cousins will present Disability in the Civil War. Pick up your copy of her new book Bodies in Blue from our friends at The Bookshelf today!
