She is also a named inventor on a United States patent granted in 1990 for technology that improved copier performance and image quality. Her accomplishments reflect a powerful legacy of perseverance\, innovation\, and leadership.\n\n\nThis program is free and open to the public. Explore historic towns of Old Thomas County\, go behind the scenes of churches and homes\, and discover what makes our region unique alongside your fellow history lovers. \n\n\n\nWhile Boston may be the second oldest town in the county\, it’s current location was not where its founders originally started. In the 1860s the community shifted the town two miles down the road to be closer to the railroad station. Formally incorporated in 1870\, Boston has since remained a bustling town complete with a Carnegie Library that still serves the community’s appetite for literacy. The town supports not only a strong agricultural community but also a thriving business sector in their historic downtown. \n\n\n\n\nTransportation is provided\, with the option to drive separately if preferred. Lunch is not included. Dr. Cable received his doctorate from Florida States University and leads classes in the History Department at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton.\n\n\n\nIn the 1930s and 1940s — amid depression and war — hundreds of Georgians joined planned farming communities. Dr. Cable will give an overview of resettlement communities run by the federal government\, including Irwinville (Irwin County)\, Wolf Creek (Grady County)\, and the all-African American Flint River Farms project (Macon County) as well as non-government farming communities like Koinonia (Sumter County) and the Monastery of the Holy Spirit (Rockdale County).\n\nThis program is free and open to the public. Explore historic towns of Old Thomas County\, go behind the scenes of churches and homes\, and discover what makes our region unique alongside your fellow history lovers. \n\n\n\n\nThe community of Ochlocknee was first settled by American citizens as early as the 1810s but wasn’t chartered until the 1870s. Named after the river of the same name\, the town sits just below the Ochlocknee Following the Civil War\, more and more people moved to the area to start small farms. When the railroad line came through town\, settlement drew in and formed the downtown we see today. Today\, the town boasts a population of around 700 with aneconomy focused on agriculture and industry. \n\n\n\nTransportation is provided\, with the option to drive separately if preferred. Lunch is not included. Open to campers in rising 5th through rising 8th Grade. Each group will experience age-appropriate activities using the History Center’s backyard and eight historic structures as our “classroom.” Every day brings new adventures as we explore Thomasville’s history from 12\,000 years ago through  the 21st century. Campers will also enjoy excursions out in the community on their journey through the past. \n\nNote: Camp registration does not include lunch\, only snacks. Please be as detailed as possible in the “things we should know” section as it helps us to best prepare for your camper and offer a positive experience for everyone. Drawing on her fifteen years with the Pebble Hill staff and her work as Curator since 2016\, Curtis will share stories\, photographs\, and artifacts that illustrate two centuries of life at the historic plantation and its connections to the founding and growth of Thomasville. \nCurrently on view in the Elisabeth Ireland Poe Gallery at Pebble Hill Plantation\, the exhibit explores the people\, traditions\, and pivotal moments that have shaped the property over the past 200 years. Through archival materials and objects from the plantation’s collections\, audiences will gain a deeper understanding of Pebble Hill’s evolving role in the history of Thomas County and the broader region.

The program will explore Charles Lapham’s Spiritualist beliefs and how they influenced the design\, symbolism\, and orientation of this remarkable home. \nThe evening includes a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres\, beer\, wine\, and a signature equinox sangria\, followed by a seated dinner featuring a special seasonal menu and dessert.
